YA Buffet

I'd like to giva a shot out to all my fellow YA authors participating in the Book Lovers Buffet. The buffet runs through the 22nd and has some awesome YA selections for only .99 cents. That's right, less than one dollar to download some great books for your summer reading pleasure. Take a break from that required for school summer reading list and enjoy a a decadent little treat on the side.

Veronica Blade has three books for you to grab up - From Fame to Shame, A Bite's Tale: A Furry Fable, and the book with the cover my witchy side digs the most, Something Witchy Comes This Way.

Brainiac Tessa McClean’s newly discovered magical powers give her an escape from her self-absorbed parents. But the thrill of being a witch fades when she learns of a rival coven and begins to suspect her own coven’s motives. Evidence tells Tessa to trust one side, but instinct drives her toward the other.

When the school’s scrumptious delinquent, Hayden Anders, offers Tessa self-defense lessons in exchange for tutoring, his timing couldn’t be better. Although hanging out with him is a necessary evil in Tessa’s fight to stay alive, resisting a bad-boy she secretly yearns for might be more than she can manage.

Together, Tessa and Hayden work to unravel the mysteries behind the two covens to discover why they’ll stop at nothing to lure Tessa to their side. She must form an alliance with one of the covens before it’s too late. But the wrong decision could cost Tessa the lives of all who she holds dear — including Hayden.

I just gifted my niece Hayley a copy since she reads way faster than me. Hopefully, we'll get her to give us a review and / or have Victoria stop by to say hi. Next week we are going to take a look at another featured author, Stacy Juba and her book, Dark Before Dawn. I gifted that one to Hayley, too. Aren't I the coolest aunt ever!?!

Love...

I want to share some words of wisdom from Megan...

Some people think as love of just another often used word. But what is it exactly? A sign, fate, .... or is it something created by our own subconchious? Throughout my life I've seen people who are in love, and people in love with the idea of love. My mother says that love is complicated, and she's right. It's not easy, and we have to work at it. When we do or say something we regret, we wish to go back in time and change it. But we can't, and then we have to deal with the pain... and frustration. I think of love as a song. Every note has it's own meaning, just like people. I hope to fall in love someday, and when i do I'll look back and think to myself "I'm glad I had heartbreak, or else I wouldn't have met him."

Megan is only 13 years old and already has an incredible way with words. I have a feeling we'll be buying her books someday.

Her mom has determined that she can't read Shattered yet. But, I figure that by the time I'm able to write something age appropriate for her to read, she'll already be old enough to read what I've already written.

Scars

Cheryl Rainfield's book Scars is a free download today and tomorrow. I've had this book on my to be read list since I first head about it. I think this book grabbed my attention since at a low point in my life I used to image taking a knife to my wrists and just laying down to bleed out. I was also once in a relationship with a pro wrestler who was a cutter. He disguised his cutting by blading in his matches. Blading is taking a taped up razor blade to your forehead and cutting to draw blood. There's an old saying in the wrestling business that red (blood) = green (cash). This guy would go for the blade regardless of the payoff. He just like the sweet pain of the blade sinking into his skin. The lightheadedness that got worse as the match progressed. The ability to feel something other than numb.

BLURB:

Kendra must face her past and stop hurting herself—before it's too late....

An edgy, realistic, and hopeful novel about a teen survivor of sexual abuse who uses self-harm to cope.

Kendra, fifteen, hasn't felt safe since she began to recall devastating memories of childhood sexual abuse, especially because she still can't remember the most important detail – her abuser's identity. Frightened, Kendra believes someone is always watching and following her, leaving menacing messages only she understands. If she lets her guard down even for a minute, it could cost Kendra her life. To relieve the pressure, Kendra cuts; aside from her brilliantly expressive artwork, it's her only way of coping. Since her own mother is too self-absorbed to hear her cries for help, Kendra finds support in others instead: from her therapist and her art teacher, from Sandy, the close family friend who encourages her artwork, and from Meghan, the classmate who's becoming a friend and maybe more. But the truth about Kendra's abuse is just waiting to explode, with startling unforeseen consequences. SCARS is the unforgettable story of one girl's frightening path to the truth.
