The Vampire Hunter's Daughter

Jennifer Malone Wright
Jennifer Malone Wright resides in the beautiful mountains of northern Idaho with her husband and five children. Between the craziness of taking care of her children, whose ages range from fourteen all the way down to six months, and being a homemaker, Jennifer has little time left for herself. The time she does have left, usually leading far into the night, is spent working on freelance work or her beloved fiction.

When she grew up, Jennifer always had her nose in a book. She has been writing stories and poems since grade school. This love of the written word and her strong interest in the paranormal is what has led to her first novel “The Birth of Jaiden.”

In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Jennifer is also a very proud military wife. Moving around the country for the last ten years has made her a bit of a nomad and she finds it difficult to be in one place for too long.

Jennifer is also the author of The Birth of Jaiden, a paranormal novel filled with action, suspense, and even a love story.

Excerpt:

I took the first book off the stack and examined the cover. It was titled Vampires throughout History. The cover was leather and so old it was stiff and cracked in spots. The pages showed signs of age too, yellowing and stiff to the touch. There was no table of contents, so it looked like I was going to have to scan the entire book for what I was wanting. I flipped the pages carefully, so as not to tear any of them.

After an hour of scanning and about half way through the book, I found something referring to vampire children.
~~~
Although extremely rare, the natural-born offspring of vampires exist throughout the world. These rare beings are called the dhampir. Dhampir are usually the product of a vampire and mortal. The most common of these unions is a male vampire impregnating a mortal woman. Vampires, both male and female, are seductive in nature and some mortals came willingly to these unions. However, the majority of dhampir born were produced through an act of rape.
Solitary by nature, it is uncommon for a vampire to settle with any one mate for long. The children of vampires, the dhampir, more often than not exhibit all the characteristics of their vampire parent. The strength, speed and agility are the usual hereditary traits that the children develop. They are not always born with these traits but develop them as they grow into adulthood.
The dhampir are day walkers. Some of these children are sensitive to the sunlight but will not perish in the direct rays. Most have no sensitivity at all. Drinking the fresh blood of mortals is also not usually required of the dhampir; however, some have a liking for it. Very few actually need it to survive.
Most dhampir are rejected by the vampire species because of their mortality and weaknesses. Mortals often reject the dhampir, as well, due to their vampirism, so they frequently remain outcast.
Dhampir are known for becoming vampire killers. Their closeness to the vampires and their vampire characteristics make them powerful vampire hunters. The unique ability to track and kill vampires is specific to only the dhampir and the mythological race of vampire hunters.
Historically, dhampir became vampire hunters as a trade. Towns and villages became plagued by vampires who were terrorizing their homes and killing their people. The dhampir accepted contracts in exchange for monetary payment and used their likeness to their vampire counterparts to exterminate the vampires.
~~~
Holy crap, that was a lot to process. The more I read the passages, the more I understood that my being a hunter was more than my heritage; it was my history and my future. Everything about my bloodlines had hunters involved.

Teen Mom

I got to meet one of the stars of MTV's Teen Mom - Catelynn Moore. She and Tyler were at an event at Rocketown in downtown Nashville tonight.

Catelynn was super sweet and very approachable. She is such a great role model and spokesperson for adoption. I gave her a copy of Shattered and did some promotion for my book. I hope she enjoys reading Amalie's story.

Ghost Stories

I was recently asked why I haven't used my gift as a medium in the promotion of Shattered. It was something I had to put some thought into. Maybe it's that I don't want to exploit Amalie's spirit. Or maybe it's the fact that the man who raped her still walks among the living.

Amalie was once a real person. She is the daughter of my spirit guide Odessa. I knew the basics of what happened to her, or at least what Odessa was willing to share. I didn't start to actually channel Amalie until we started telling her story.

It was very hard to draw her out. She didn't want to tell me what really happened or how bad things really were. Much like she relied on Stella to cope when she was alive, she choose to embellish her story with a heavy dose of fiction.

I can't reveal her father's true identity because he was a very well know person in the wrestling business. That's why Odessa chose to call him William. It was his death, okay murder, that pushed Odessa over the edge. His real death occurred just after Amalie was raped. He never knew what happened, at least not while he was on this side. I think Amalie wanted the time frame changed to protect him and Odessa.

Odessa was so grief stricken by "William's" death that she wasn't able to be there for Amalie when all this went down. Amalie really did hide her pregnancy until there was nothing that could have been done to save her or the babies that she was carrying.

I guess now I have the answer about not playing up the whole channeling a spirit thing. It's to protect Amalie. She wanted her story told. She wants to help other girls who have been raped. Yet, at the same time she doesn't want to come forward with too much of the truth because she adored her father. She didn't know him as the icon that he was, she just knew him as her father and the man who kept Odessa grounded in a semi-state of reality.

A few weeks ago we got the most amazing email from a girl in the UK who told me that Amalie's story had helped her come to terms with her own rape and decision to have an abortion. I had tears in my eyes when I read this email. That means more to me than any amount of sales or making any bestseller lists. It meant the world to Amalie.

The fact that we touched one young girl's life in a positive manner made it worth every word we struggled over when telling Amalie's story.

YA Buffet

I'd like to giva a shot out to all my fellow YA authors participating in the Book Lovers Buffet. The buffet runs through the 22nd and has some awesome YA selections for only .99 cents. That's right, less than one dollar to download some great books for your summer reading pleasure. Take a break from that required for school summer reading list and enjoy a a decadent little treat on the side.

Veronica Blade has three books for you to grab up - From Fame to Shame, A Bite's Tale: A Furry Fable, and the book with the cover my witchy side digs the most, Something Witchy Comes This Way.

Brainiac Tessa McClean’s newly discovered magical powers give her an escape from her self-absorbed parents. But the thrill of being a witch fades when she learns of a rival coven and begins to suspect her own coven’s motives. Evidence tells Tessa to trust one side, but instinct drives her toward the other.

When the school’s scrumptious delinquent, Hayden Anders, offers Tessa self-defense lessons in exchange for tutoring, his timing couldn’t be better. Although hanging out with him is a necessary evil in Tessa’s fight to stay alive, resisting a bad-boy she secretly yearns for might be more than she can manage.

Together, Tessa and Hayden work to unravel the mysteries behind the two covens to discover why they’ll stop at nothing to lure Tessa to their side. She must form an alliance with one of the covens before it’s too late. But the wrong decision could cost Tessa the lives of all who she holds dear — including Hayden.

I just gifted my niece Hayley a copy since she reads way faster than me. Hopefully, we'll get her to give us a review and / or have Victoria stop by to say hi. Next week we are going to take a look at another featured author, Stacy Juba and her book, Dark Before Dawn. I gifted that one to Hayley, too. Aren't I the coolest aunt ever!?!

Love...

I want to share some words of wisdom from Megan...

Some people think as love of just another often used word. But what is it exactly? A sign, fate, .... or is it something created by our own subconchious? Throughout my life I've seen people who are in love, and people in love with the idea of love. My mother says that love is complicated, and she's right. It's not easy, and we have to work at it. When we do or say something we regret, we wish to go back in time and change it. But we can't, and then we have to deal with the pain... and frustration. I think of love as a song. Every note has it's own meaning, just like people. I hope to fall in love someday, and when i do I'll look back and think to myself "I'm glad I had heartbreak, or else I wouldn't have met him."

Megan is only 13 years old and already has an incredible way with words. I have a feeling we'll be buying her books someday.

Her mom has determined that she can't read Shattered yet. But, I figure that by the time I'm able to write something age appropriate for her to read, she'll already be old enough to read what I've already written.

Scars

Cheryl Rainfield's book Scars is a free download today and tomorrow. I've had this book on my to be read list since I first head about it. I think this book grabbed my attention since at a low point in my life I used to image taking a knife to my wrists and just laying down to bleed out. I was also once in a relationship with a pro wrestler who was a cutter. He disguised his cutting by blading in his matches. Blading is taking a taped up razor blade to your forehead and cutting to draw blood. There's an old saying in the wrestling business that red (blood) = green (cash). This guy would go for the blade regardless of the payoff. He just like the sweet pain of the blade sinking into his skin. The lightheadedness that got worse as the match progressed. The ability to feel something other than numb.

BLURB:

Kendra must face her past and stop hurting herself—before it's too late....

An edgy, realistic, and hopeful novel about a teen survivor of sexual abuse who uses self-harm to cope.

Kendra, fifteen, hasn't felt safe since she began to recall devastating memories of childhood sexual abuse, especially because she still can't remember the most important detail – her abuser's identity. Frightened, Kendra believes someone is always watching and following her, leaving menacing messages only she understands. If she lets her guard down even for a minute, it could cost Kendra her life. To relieve the pressure, Kendra cuts; aside from her brilliantly expressive artwork, it's her only way of coping. Since her own mother is too self-absorbed to hear her cries for help, Kendra finds support in others instead: from her therapist and her art teacher, from Sandy, the close family friend who encourages her artwork, and from Meghan, the classmate who's becoming a friend and maybe more. But the truth about Kendra's abuse is just waiting to explode, with startling unforeseen consequences. SCARS is the unforgettable story of one girl's frightening path to the truth.

Crush

I really want to use my site as a place for young adult readers to find all kinds of books that they enjoy. Today I downloaded Crush by Dani Labue. It is a free download and the cover and blurb drew me into wanting to read this story.

True love takes a dangerous turn for a high school “it couple.”

 ~~~~~ *** ~~~~~ *** ~~~~~
 The perfect couple. Good looks, popularity, football star, sweet cheerleader - they had it all... until a single moment changed everything -- forever.
Trade Winds High football star Gage Anders fell in love with Rainbow Hawkins the first time he saw her. Rainbow was the new girl at school, eager to make friends and fit in. Rainbow thought Gage was the boy of her dreams. Tall, blonde smart and funny. Her days are full with cheerleading practices, play rehearsals and of course spending time by Gage’s side. Trade Winds high schools called Gage and Rainbow the perfect couple. Until both their worlds came crashing down. In one swift blow.
Merry Meet
Welcome to my brand new YA blog. Since Shattered has starting bringing in so sales and good reviews I decided it was time to break away from my normal more smutty persona and present a forum for my YA readers. I supposed I could have taken another pen name, but I'm not really ashamed of anything that I write and since my YA is targeted toward older teens they probably have already read their fair share of adult literature.Not that I'm saying go out and buy my other books.
One of the reasons I didn't change pen names is that I just happen to love being Jezebel Jorge. The characters in my Ring Dreams series are featured in both my young adult and novels written for a more mature audience. Adult readers might enjoy going back in time to see how some of their favorite characters grew up to become the people they are now.
Shattered is Amalie's story and she is the birth mother of my serial killing anti-heroine in Headlocks & Hexes.
Fifteen year old Amalie is an outcast brainiac with a psycho witchy bitch of a mom and no magickal powers to call her own until a chain of events turn her world upside down.
She gets her first kiss. (From Bryson Dalton)
Her mom (Odessa) runs off with a pro wrestler. (Billy Dalton)
Amalie is raped.
Stella decides to come out and play.
Someone turns up pregnant.
 In order to survive Amalie becomes Shattered.
A much younger Courtney, Dylan, Alex, Sunn and Vlad also make appearances in Shattered. And I am sure Paul Bryson would also be highly offended if I failed to mention he also shows up in this story.
I hope you'll take some time and browse around. You can find my YA page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/JezebelJorgeYA and I am on Twitter @jezebeljorgeya
